Decisions shape our destiny

To a large degree, life is about decision making. The decisions we make determine our progress and success in life and business. These choices ultimately shape our destiny.

Our values guide our decision making process. Should we abide by healthy eating habits, miss an obligated meeting, let distractions stand in the way of completing tasks on schedule, or not keep our word on commitments? By evaluating our values and determining our desire for an outcome, we suddenly have the tools to make the best decisions for the best possible results.

How then do we go about making choices in a given circumstance?

Get all the Information

Consider the details and glean as much information as you can before making a decision. The higher the stakes, the more data required. It’s important to know that our choices will help us serve someone and promote positive energy and goodwill. How will your decision affect your enterprise, yourself and others? Will your decision sustain your principles or lower them?

Follow Through

Once you’ve made your decision, move forward. Take action. Make that value added phone call to a loyal client. Offer leadership support to a struggling employee. Make a commitment and follow through to support a chosen non-profit. We aren’t truly making good choices when we do not push through to the end. By following through, we are true to ourselves and to others. We are making progress toward a life of integrity and achievement.

Evaluate

Taking time to evaluate our decisions is key to self-improvement. Learning the lessons along the way and our course of action strengthen our muscle memory for better choices in the future. In the end, it’s far better to decide and act than to do nothing at all.

Celebrated author and positive thinking guru Anthony Robbins underscores the critical nature of life’s decisions in a recent web article. Knowing that making a questionable decision can lead to pain and suffering, “why do some of us continue to make poor decisions?”

It’s not, he says, about self-control as much as it is about upholding our values and standards. “Raise your standards, or make a shift in your beliefs and values, and then you will make the right choices,” he adds.

Believe in Yourself and Take Action

Creating Belief by Taking the First Step

Are you asking yourself, “Where do I even start? How do I take action”?

Do you believe in yourself?

More importantly: Do you believe you can do it? What is your mindset? According to Napoleon Hill:

“It can be truthfully said that seldom in life will you fail to accomplish an act or achieve a purpose if you condition your mind properly before you start. It all depends on the way you condition your mind. Take possession of your own mind and use it. Whatever your mind can conceive and believe it can achieve.”

As I see this applied to a definite purpose, taking the first step and actually producing results gives you enormous belief in yourself. It is truly “believing by doing.” Your energy is expanded exponentially by taking the first step. Empower yourself and others. Create belief by taking action!

Take Action! Take the first step

  1. Be specific with what you plan to accomplish.
  2. Research the resources that will assist you in completing your plan.
  3. Define the projects and activity that will produce results.
  4. Create timelines with specific dates for each of your short term and long term goals.
  5. Schedule your time daily, weekly and monthly and measure results.
  6. See yourself taking the next step.  Believe!

Daily Affirmations

Daily, positive affirmations can be very effective to reinforce your determination to accomplish your goals. I highly recommend starting and ending your day with powerful, positive written and spoken affirmations. This is a proven strategy toward developing belief and sustaining high achievement. Intention and mindset impacts your life

What is your Intention?

Have you ever wondered what will make a difference in your life? Let’s explore our thinking on that. According to the late Charlie Tremendous Jones, “Five years from today, you will be the same person that you are today, except for the books you read and the people you meet.” Let’s go deeper. How do you spend your time each day and what are your thoughts in regard to what you do now and its effect on your future.

How do you spend your time?

How you spend your time reflects a lot about how seriously you perceive the value of time. Set your intention. Lay out your schedule so that you are moving toward your goal. Define whether or not an activity is the best use of your time. Will that use of your time and energy have a positive impact on the end result you are working toward?

Decision Making

Look at all sides of your decisions. Do they require immediate action? Are they in your best interest in the long run? Have you asked all the questions? Are you considering long term obligations? Take the time to make those judgments for yourself and for your future.

Be positive

Feeling positive about your choices can be extremely inspiring and motivating. Set your priorities. Get started. You will find that you bring satisfaction to yourself and attract others to do the same.

Brian Tracy notes the importance of understanding the consequences of your decisions:

Do what has the greatest positive impact on your life.

The mark of the superior thinker is his or her ability to accurately predict the consequences of doing or not doing something. Thinking continually about the potential consequences of your choices, decisions and behaviors is one of the very best ways to determine what is really important to you.

Your attitude toward time—your “time horizon”—has an enormous impact on your behavior and your choices. People who have a long-term view of their lives and careers always seem to make much better decisions about their time and activities than people who give very little thought to the future. Long-time perspective is one of the most important factors in determining your success in life. So what is it that can help you the most?
